Portions of Conquest Preserve Temporarily Closed for Invasive Species Management

Queen Anne's County Department of Parks and Recreation advises visitors that portions of Conquest Preserve will be temporarily closed Monday, August 10 through Wednesday, August 12, weather permitting, to allow for invasive species management. If weather delays the work, the treatment will occur Tuesday, August 11 through Thursday, August 13.

The temporary closure is necessary to accommodate the aerial application of herbicide to meadow areas located south of the main road within the preserve. The work will be conducted using drone technology, an innovative application method that allows for precise treatment while minimizing disturbance to surrounding natural areas.

For public safety, the treated areas will remain closed for 48 hours following the application. During this time, visitors are asked to respect all posted closures and avoid entering the designated treatment areas.

The project is being coordinated by Washington College's Natural Lands Project and funded through grant support secured by the College to assist with invasive species management and habitat restoration efforts.

Removing invasive plant species helps protect native vegetation, improves wildlife habitat, and supports the long-term ecological health of Conquest Preserve. We appreciate the public's patience and cooperation as this important conservation work is completed.

The pavilion at Conquest Preserve will also be unavailable during the treatment period as a precaution, and no pavilion reservations will be scheduled while the work is underway.
