Compliance Tips With Hospital Spine Surgery Scheduling, during Covid-19 From Dr. Jeffrey D. Gross, MD.

The coronavirus pandemic certainly disrupted hospital spinal surgeries from moving forward as normal for many good reasons. Safety compliance is now the focus.

NEWPORT BEACH, CA, UNITED STATES, June 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Adapting practice policies to re-instituting inpatient hospital spine surgeries is essential to the avoidance of cancellations and to improve scheduling expectations. As patients and their surgeons weigh their declining fears of entering a hospital in the Covid pandemic epidemiological tail with their clinical need for surgery, the successful and agile surgeon’s office must adapt to ongoing additional steps required for both their office and their patients requiring adherence. With these challenges as the backdrop, smart and local minds are providing much needed guidance.

Dr. Jeffrey D. Gross, spine fellowship trained neurological surgeon, through the Newport Beach (CA) Covid Safe Commerce Task Force has developed hospital compliance tips to avoid surgery cancellation.

First, newly created hospital policies require Covid-19 testing, followed by a period of patient self-quarantine. This additional testing/behavioral step can be performed at the usual pre-op lab testing and is best offered by the hospital where the surgery is to take place. The patient must be advised as to self-quarantine restrictions as to avoid a cancellation on the date of surgery when questioned in a pre-operative holding area as required by most EMR checklists recently added.

Second, it is best to provide as part of the informed consent, the possibility of cancellations/postponements of a scheduled surgery in order to breed understanding and reduce disappointment on account of Covid-19 related changes. Besides positive viral tests (or absence of testing), or poor-self-quarantining, hospital census (and/or ICU/respirator utilization), hospital supply limitations, and/or funding/staffing issues may also force a surgical schedule change at the last minute. Even in the absence of a second epidemiological spike, these challenging factors may still exist. Hospital income has declined, and such will be reflected in staffing and supplies as the health care system tries to recover in taking on desired elective surgical cases. It is important to review and comply with the individual hospital facilities’ policies. Most physicians have received a larger number of communications from hospitals in the last few months than ever before, and those related to re-instituting surgical scheduling cannot be ignored.

Lastly, it is also important to review new visitation limitations with both patients and their families. Many facilities are not allowing visitors. Others have mask and other PPE requirements. Expectations are best managed ahead of time.

Dr. Jeffrey Gross performs inpatient spinal surgeries for patients in need at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach California, Chapman Global Medical Center in Orange, California, and Henderson Hospital in Henderson, NV. Dr. Gross is the chairperson medical volunteer for the Newport Beach, California Covid Safe Commerce Task Force. His team is spearheading the investigation and implementation of safe practices in the re-opening of medical commerce to best serve patients in his community.

What is Power Yoga?

Power Yoga. Even if you never heard of it, odds are it’s affecting the way you think about and practice yoga. Why? Because it’s popular and athletic—the very definition of modern yoga. It’s worth understanding Power Yoga because even though it’s one of the most prolific forms of yoga in the United States, it can be difficult to define and has more names than someone running from the law.

Names of Power Yoga: Power yoga (a.k.a “Power Vinyasa Yoga,” a.k.a. “Power Flow,” a.k.a. “hot Power Yoga,” a.k.a “Baptiste Power Yoga”)

What gets overlooked is Power Yoga never meant to become what it is today. The creators saw it as a “gateway yoga” where you come for the abs but stay for the deeper prospect of yoga.

New Vinyasa Yoga / Power Yoga Workout Video for Quarantine Yoga Practice

Vinyasa Flow Yoga is known as a breath-synchronized practice due to each posture is connected to the next one using the breath”

— Michelle Goldstein

NEWPORT BEACH, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, June 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Heart Alchemy announces a brand new Vinyasa Yoga / Power Yoga video led by it's founder, Michelle Goldstein. As a continuation of their Vinyasa Yoga flow series, the YouTube channel will soon release this 47 minute yoga class, perfect for quarantine yoga at home.

This video includes the traditional poses and sequences of Vinyasa Yoga, also known as 'Flow Yoga', combined with deep breathing techniques (pranayama) such as Ujjayi breath, specially designed to achieve a full body relaxation.

The type of experience that is had with the Vinyasa Yoga practices is known as the flow experience. The 'state of Flow' is characterized by total absorption in the activity, while maintaining deep single pointed focus and concentration. A union of consciousness and action is how it's described by regular practitioners. It happens when the capacities and abilities we have are in balance with the challenges presented by the activity we are doing.

This experience of fluidity can be more accessible through the practices of Yoga Vinyasa. This style gather several qualities that make possible to enter in an intense concentration, through physical activity, body movement, breathing and creativity.

The breath has a vital role in this disciplined Power Yoga Workout. This dance of movement with the breath, combined with the sequences and progression of postures that are performed in Vinyasa Flow, offers many possibilities for creativity. "Vinyasa Flow Yoga is known as a breath-synchronized practice due to each posture is connected to the next one using the breath", says Michelle Goldstein, Co-Founder of Heart Alchemy Yoga.

What is Vinyasa Yoga?

The term Vinyasa is derived from "nyasa", meaning “to place,” and "vi", meaning “in a special way.” This indicates that we are bringing consciousness to each movement in each moment. Vinyasa yoga pairs the breath with smooth transitions from one pose to another and it’s a faster-paced class that can be vigorous, athletic and dynamic.

Vinyasa Flow is a practice to connect internally and also a very enriching experience when we develop and share it in our collective yoga sessions. This style of yoga facilitates calorie-burning and is known for improving flexibility, muscular strength, cardiovascular health and mental focus.

Doctors Predict Surge of Workplace Health Problems

Doctors are becoming increasingly concerned about facing a cascade of workplace health problems during the fallout from COVID-19.

As a society, we just don’t have the resources to face the coming crisis in occupational health”

— Dr. Wendy Snell MBBS DCH FPC DRCOG Dip OH MSc OH

WOLVERHAMPTON, WEST MIDLANDS, UNITED KINGDOM, June 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Doctors are becoming increasingly concerned about facing a cascade of health problems during the fallout from COVID-19, with some predicting serious consequences for employers as well as employees.

Whilst many of us develop a degree of structure around remote working, or return to work with social distancing in place, many employers don’t realise that the burden of managing health problems amongst their employees sits firmly on their desks.

“As a society, we just don’t have the resources to face the coming crisis in occupational health” says Dr. Wendy Snell MBBS DCH FPC DRCOG Dip OH MSc OH, an occupational health specialist practising in London.

“There are already more occupational health jobs than doctors or nurses available to fill them and demand for the specialism is rocketing, which means employers will be waiting to get advice as waiting lists grow” she said.

Dr. Snell continued that "whilst waiting lists are commonly associated with NHS care, employers across the UK are about to find the same problem if they need to get professional advice about how to manage an employee’s health problem".

With laws like the Equality Act 2010 setting down that employers must make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to an employee’s role or environment before considering if an employee can be dismissed on health grounds, demand for occupational health advice has been steadily increasing for years, long before the arrival of COVID-19.

“We’ve seen huge increases in enquiries in recent weeks” says Magnus Kauders, Managing Director of Occupational Health Assessment Limited, an occupational health provider based in Wolverhampton.

“Requests for help from employers usually follow very predictable seasonal peaks, yet the last month has been ridiculous. We’ve seen a 100% increase in demand in the last two weeks alone” he said.

Other specialists across the country have also expressed concern about the long-term impact of the lockdown on employee’s health, particularly psychological and mental health. Geoff Heyes, Head of Health Policy and Influencing at the mental health charity Mind, has called for proactive detection of problems among COVID-19 survivors, but is concerned NHS mental health services may be already too overstretched.

“Going into this pandemic, only one in three people who needed help for their mental health were actually getting any support. Coming out we are going to see even higher demand.”

Continuing the theme, Drinkaware CEO Elaine Hindal issues a stark warning from the Alcohol Health Alliance. “What’s worrying is that lockdown and continued isolation could result in concerning drinking patterns going unnoticed until it’s too late. Employers must use every opportunity to plan for a return to work that prioritises employee health and wellbeing.”

Employer’s groups are also becoming increasingly concerned. The Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development say “Employee health, safety and well-being during this time is paramount. Employers need to be proactive in protecting their people and minimising the risk to staff and business continuity.” The Society of Occupational Medicine has also called for swift action to provide universal access to occupational health across the UK, stressing that only half of the UK’s population have access to workplace health support.

“We’re used to employers suddenly finding they have a health issue to consider when they embark on a redundancy programme” said Mr. Kauders “although the numbers taking those steps now are pushing a wave of problems straight into occupational health to sort out” he continued “it’s really difficult for everyone involved”.

Healing Arizona Veterans raising $1.2 million to treat 100 brain injured war veterans

Private donors who wish to help these veterans can do so by donating vehicles and or cash.

TUCSON, ARIZONA, USA, June 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Contact

Healing Arizona Veterans raising $1.2 million to treat 100 brain injured war veterans

TUCSON
Goal:
Healing Arizona Veterans (HAV) has the goal of raising $1.2 million to sponsor the treatment of 100 veterans suffering from war related brain injuries. Private donors who wish to help these veterans can do so by donating vehicles and or cash.
HAV sponsors the treatment of military veterans suffering from wartime Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and PTSD. The treatment utilizes Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) and adjunctive therapies at private facilities. It costs between $8,000 and $12,000 (depending on the severity of the injuries) to provide this life changing treatment for each veteran. There are approximately 13,000 veterans suffering from TBI in Arizona.

Achievements:
Since its establishment in 2017, HAV has raised over $170,000 in private donations. These donations provided treatment for eleven war injured veterans, utilizing HBOT and adjunctive therapies.
Some veterans have completed the treatment and others need additional sessions. The veterans are from various branches of the military and various theaters of deployment: Six served in the Army, three in the Marine Corp and two in the Navy – including a Navy SEAL. Nine of the veterans had served in the current Middle Eastern conflicts and two in the first Gulf war. There are other veterans waiting to be treated, with new potential patients requesting treatment weekly.

About HAV:
HAV was established as a 501c3 charity in 2017. It sponsors the treatment of veterans at two private locations, NorthStar HBOT in Tucson, and HBOT of Arizona in Phoenix. All HAV Board members and staff are volunteers. As such, 98% of all donations are used for treatment.

About HBOT:
HBOT has been shown to be an effective, non-medicinal alternative, both abroad and selectively in the U.S. It is not yet offered as a Veterans Administration benefit. During treatment, patients breathe pure oxygen in a chamber where pressure is 1.5 to 2.2 times normal level. This rejuvenates cells and increases stem cell production that promotes healing. Treat Now, a veterans’ support group, estimates there are 4,200 veterans who have already been treated using HBOT. Arizona passed legislation in 2018 in support of HBOT for TBI and PTSD. It was the fifth State to do so. Three others have joined since then for a total of eight States.

Illinois-Wisconsin Health System Partners with Medicom Health to Lower Patient Prescription Costs

Medicom Health logo

Medicom Health empowers health engagement via world-class digital solutions.

New Electronic Medical Record Add-On Automates the Delivery of Rx Discounts at Enterprise Scale

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, UNITED STATES, June 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Medicom Health is pleased to announce that Mercyhealth has chosen to deploy their Rx Savings Assistant® solution across the health system as part of the provider’s ongoing commitment to improving medication adherence and reducing patient readmissions.

Mercyhealth is a regional health system with seven hospitals and 85 primary and specialty care locations throughout 50 northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin communities. As an integrated health care provider, they provide exceptional, coordinated health care that spans four core service divisions: hospital-based services, clinic-based services, post-acute care and retail services, and a wholly owned insurance company.
Medicom Health's new Rx Savings Assistant® software is a simple way for hospital systems to instantly increase prescription fills by making them more affordable for more patients. This technology supplements other patient assistance programs and leverages their electronic medical record (EMR) investment.

The solution is a plug-in module for EMRs like Epic and Cerner. The technology listens for new prescriptions and searches external databases for matching discount offers from various partners and adds those brand name and generic savings offers into the patient records automatically. The discounts are easily available on the printed After-Visit Summary (AVS) paperwork handed to each qualified patient at discharge. Because the system runs invisibly behind the scenes, it does not alter physician workflow or influence prescribing patterns. As soon as this solution is turned on, every qualified patient is eligible for effortless access to discounts for any prescription.

“Dramatically reducing the cost of medications for patients improves their adherence and ultimately their health,” says Will Sigsbee, CEO of Medicom Health. “We are able to make a meaningful impact for health systems because of the volume and quality of our discount offers, and reduced friction in delivering them.”

“We are always looking for ways to improve access to medications for our patients,” says Don Janczak, System Director of Pharmacy at Mercyhealth. “When patients have affordable medications, they are more likely to fill and follow them, which improves outcomes and reduces readmission rates. We are pleased to offer this service as another way to reduce our patients' cost burden.”

Increased adherence results in many benefits to patients and providers, including better outcomes, patient satisfaction, pharmacy revenues, and more.

ABOUT MEDICOM HEALTH
Founded in 2000 in Minneapolis, Medicom Health is a technology company dedicated to empowering health engagement by delivering world-class digital solutions. Almost a thousand hospitals and millions of patients use their tools and technologies every year, including their disruptive clinical channel for automated Rx discounts at enterprise scale.

Man-hee Lee Writes a Letter regarding Shincheonji Members’ Plasma Donation: “Freeing the World through Our Blood”

Shincheonji Chairman Man Hee Lee

Shincheonji Chairman Lee Man-hee’s Letter [Provided by Shincheonji Church in Daegu]

Chairman Lee wants to use this donation as a way to thank government health officials for caring for our members

This is the work that needs to be done as citizens of this country and as true believers. It is keeping the command of Jesus of loving your neighbor as yourself (Mt 22:39)”

— Man Hee Lee

WASHINGTON D.C., UNITED STATES, June 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Man Hee Lee, Chairman and Founder of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Shincheonji) expressed his gratitude to his church members and the city of Daegu after 4000 congregants volunteered to donate plasma after fully recovering from COVID-19.

According to Shincheonji church in the city of Daegu, Chairman Lee stated in his letter, “I was overjoyed to hear that the church members in Daegu, South Korea were volunteering to donate plasma (blood) to help find a treatment for COVID-19. I am thankful to the government for working to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to treat those who are infected.” He added, “it is clear that the church members of Daegu church have gathered their hearts to free people worldwide from the pains of COVID 19.”

Furthermore, Chairman Lee also stated through this message, “This is the work that needs to be done as citizens of this country [Korea] and as true believers. It is keeping the command of Jesus of loving your neighbor as yourself (Mt 22:39), and I am thankful that you have gathered your hearts for this good work”.. “let us all pray in the name of Jesus to exterminate COVID19 (Refer to Jn14:13-14).”

Shincheonji announced it’s donation on June 23rd. At the time, there were 6,901 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Daegu, South Korea, with Shincheonji members accounting for 61.8% of all confirmed cases of COVID-19.

While it has been difficult to find plasma donors, Shincheonji members’ mass plasma donation can speed up the COVID-19 vaccine development process. Since the early days of the outbreak Shincheonji members have faced mass criticism. Many outlets blame them for causing the virus’s spread across South Korea. Shincheonji explained, “Chairman Lee wants to use this donation as a way to thank government health officials for caring for our members.”

"To the beloved members of Daegu Church

To the beloved members of Daegu Church, you all are working hard. Are you all well? I am Chairman Lee Man-hee.

To the members of Daegu church, I was delighted upon hearing the news of your intent to actively participate in donating plasma (blood) for the development of the vaccine for the cure of COVID-19. I believe that you are the ones who received the blood of Jesus.

I am very thankful to the government, which took charge of preventing the spread of COVID-19 and providing treatment for it. This is not something our church could resolve.

Our members have received the blood of life of Jesus, the Son of God, and have been freed from sin. Like Jesus, through our blood (plasma) donation, I know that you have gathered your hearts in our collective wish to free all the people of the world from the pains of this disease.

I was touched when I heard that many members of Daegu church expressed their intent to voluntarily donate plasma. Indeed, you are the disciples who received the blood of Jesus. This is the work that needs to be done as citizens of this country and as true believers. It is keeping the command of Jesus of loving your neighbor as yourself (Mt 22:39), and I am thankful that you have gathered your hearts for this good work and in making this decision that is like the light.

Let us all pray in the name of Jesus to exterminate COVID-19 (Refer to Jn14:13-14).
